Use this utility to realign the print head.

The alignment of the print head may need to be adjusted if vertical lines should appear out of alignment or if white or black banding noise should appear in your documents. The Print Head Alignment utility can be used to improve the print quality of your documents. For details, see Cleaning the Print Head. You can access the Nozzle Check utility directly from the Head Cleaning utility. Use the Nozzle Check utility first to confirm that the print head needs to be cleaned. You may need to clean the print head if you notice print quality has declined. The Head Cleaning utility cleans the print head. For details, see Checking the Print Head Nozzles. If the nozzle check indicates the print head needs cleaning, you can access the Head Cleaning utility directly from the Nozzle Check utility. Check the nozzles if you notice print quality has declined and after cleaning to confirm that the print head nozzles have been cleared. The Nozzle Check utility checks the print head nozzles for clogging. Your system is configured to support bidirectional communication. The printer is connected directly to the host computer via the parallel, USB or IEEE 1394 port.

'Universal' chip reset tools are NOT universal for all models-some tools marked as 'Universal' have 7 pins, while others have 9.EPSON printer utilities allow you to check the current printer status and to perform some printer maintenance from your computer.

If you don't see a cluster of pinholes, look for a small green microchip somewhere on the cartridge-it will either have one single pinhole just above or below it, or two round metal contacts at the top or bottom.

Compare a picture of the pins on the reset tool to the number and arrangement of pinholes on the bottom of your print cartridge before purchasing.

Most cartridges have either 7 or 9 pinholes in a cluster.

To find the right chip reset tool, search the web for 'Epson cartridge chip reset tool' along with the exact model of your printer (e.g., WT-7620). Different models' cartridges have different numbers and arrangements of pin holes. The pins on the reset tool must line up with your cartridge's holes, which are on the bottom or side edge. A cartridge reset tool is a plastic device with pins that, when inserted into the pinholes on your cartridge, reset the chip inside.
